#043 Veteran's Woodcraft People's Project

#043 Veteran's Woodcraft People's Project

In this episode Susan talks to two of the founding members of the Veteran's Woodcraft group supporting people effected by their military service. They also help mental health groups providing outreach work, teaching woodcraft skills and giving theraputic support to those in need. They are taking part in a bid for lottery funding through the People's Project - Woodwork Warriors and need your votes to secure funding to further grow their reach and increase the support that they can offer.

Set-up by a group of veterans, Veterans Woodcraft delivers woodcraft courses to help veterans who have been physically and mentally affected by their military service.
By working with wood, they help them rebuild their lives, grow in confidence and develop their resilience to help them recover and lead active, fulfilling lives.

If you would like to look at the woodwork they have created it is on display this week until Friday 12th April in Mackenzie Thorpe's  Arthaus studio in Finkle Street, Richmond. A member of the group will be there to answer any questions you may have about the work that they do.

About the Guests:

Chris Morgan in partnership with Bob Taylor and Ted Grainger set up Veteran's Woodcraft on Gallowfields Trading Estate in Richmond. Chris talks about the supportive environment that they offer both at the workshop and also during the outreach programs that they run. Both he and Bob talk frankly about their own mental health struggles and how being involved with the group has helped them overcome personal  difficulties. It is obvious the pride that they take in offering support to those going through similar challenges.By working with wood, they help them rebuild their lives, grow in confidence and develop their resilience to help them recover and lead active, fulfilling lives.
